A strong work ethic, a commitment to team systems and stellar goaltending all helped the Prince George WIC bantam female Cougars to win the Kelowna Tier 1 Icebreaker tournament on the weekend.
Don Knoop, coach of the female Cougars, wrote in an email Monday expressing his pride with his team.
"I'm very satisfied with the start to the season and pleased with the players commitment to team play," said Knoop.
The Cougars were 5-0 in the tournament, beating Abbottsford 2-1; Tri-Cities 2-1; Terrace 6-0 and Surrey 5-3. In the final, Prince George shutout top-ranked Lower Mainland Tri-Cities 3-0.
After the game, Knoop said, the Tri-Cities coach told him, "Your girls were too fast and too strong for us and you had solid goaltending."
The Cougars were led by Carla Goodwin's tournament leading seven goals.
Other members of the Cougars include: Avery Quiring; Sydney Jordan; Grace Barlow; Cay-Lee Lazar; Jayden Malgunas; Chantal Beadman-Rolph; Megan Hicke; Jocelyn Forrest; Kyrsten Franz; Sabrina Knoop; Zoe Bartha; Madison Fjellstrom; Kiana Wilkinson and Ava Keis.
Next weekend, the Cougars travel to Kamloops in a pair of exhibition games.
