Seven months ago on March 22 at Kin 2, the Northland Dodge Northern Cougars wrapped up their first-ever B .C. Triple-A Female Midget Hockey League championship.
In the third and deciding game of the playoff final series, Jocelyn Forrest scored the only goal of the game, 6:58 into the third period. The Cougars held off the Fraser Valley Phantom the rest of the game and the celebration was on.
Now known as the Northern Capitals, they will commemorate that pivotal moment in team history today at 4:30 p.m. when they raise their provincial championship banner to the rafters at Kin 1. It's the first banner-raising event since the reconstructed Kin 1 opened in February 2014.
The ceremony will precede the Capitals' league game against the first-place Greater Vancouver Comets. The teams played each other Friday night at Kin 1 and will also clash Sunday morning at 8:15 at CN Centre.
The Comets brought 4-1-1- record to the rink Friday night. The Capitals were 3-1-2, coming off a trip to Vernon last weekend where they had a win, a loss and a tie against the Thompson-Okanagan Lakers.

The Cariboo Cougars major midget (male) hockey team will be sporting pink jerseys tonight when they play the South Island Royals as part of the Cougars' Paint the Rink Pink breast cancer awareness promotion and fundraiser. Game time is 7:15 p.m. at Kin 1.
The two-game B.C. Major Midget Hockey League series today and Sunday (8:15 a.m. start) pits the sixth-place Cougars (4-4-2) against the fifth-place Royals (4-2-2). Each team has 10 points in the standings but South Island has played two fewer games.
