Awards handed out at gala

At last week's Fan the Flame Awards Banquet and Gala, seven individuals and one group were recognized for their athletic accomplishments and/or contributions.

At last week's Fan the Flame Awards Banquet and Gala, seven individuals and one group were recognized for their athletic accomplishments and/or contributions.

Rising Star Awards went to the following athletes: Kaia Andal (junior female), nordic skiing; Sterling Middleton (junior male), curling; Jamie Macdonald (senior female), short track speed skating; and Colin Carson (senior male), volleyball.

As well, 2015 Canada Winter Games Legacy Sport Difference Maker Awards were presented.

Winners were: Lynn Barager, synchronized swimming; Pierre Beaudry, biathlon; Ken Nakashima, karate; and a group known as The Posse - Darlene Myers, Rhonda McIntosh, Carol Lloyd, Janet Holick, Nicola Hill, Pay Hauck, Grant Williams, Ken Sands, Ken McIntosh, Ken Goss and Gary Samis.

The gala, held to celebrate achievement in sport and the one-year anniversary of the 2015 Canada Winter Games, was held Feb. 11 at the Civic Centre. It was a fundraiser for PacificSport Northern B.C., which plays a major role in the development of local and regional high-performance athletes.

All proceeds from the banquet will support the organization's programs and activities.
