The College Heights Pub Assault showed why they're considered a legitimate threat to repeat as champions of the Prince George Senior Lacrosse Association while defeating the Quesnel Crossfire 17-9 Wednesday in Quesnel to take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five semifinal playoff series.
John Makowsky led the Assault offence with seven goals and five assists, while Dave Jenkins spiced the attack with four goals and seven assists. Drew Davies (3g, 2a) and Chase Jaeger (1g 5a) were the top scorers for Quesnel.

Game 3 of the series is set for Tuesday night at the Coliseum. The Assault took advantage of an understaffed Crossfire team in Game 1 Monday night, winning 14-3.
Led by the 1-2 scoring punch of Jenkins (34 goals and 76 points in just eight games) and Craig Dunfield (26 goals and 68 points in nine games) the Assault finished second in the PGSLA standings with a 9-3 record, while the Crossfire (4-8) placed third.
The other semifinal series resumes Thursday night at the Coliseum and the BX Pub Bandits find themselves in an unfamiliar position, down 1-0 in their series against the Shooters Pub Devils. Having lost just two of 12 games in winning the regular season title, the Bandits are heavy favourites to win the series but had a hard time coping with Shooters' sniper Danton Nicholson in the series opener Tuesday. Nicholson scored eight goals and added two assists and Steven Brizan was stellar in net, making 48 saves. Mike Quarin, with four goals, Drew Doig (3g 2a) and Damon Calfa (3g 1a) were the Bandits' high scorers in Game 1. Doig and Calfa topped the scoring race this season, each with 83 points.
In Game 1 Tuesday night the Devils beat the Bandits 14-13.
n The league final is scheduled as a best-of-seven series but could be shortened to a best-of-five affair if each of the semifinal series is extended to five games. With Kin 1 under construction and the ice at going back in at the Coliseum July 23, PGSLA head referee Terry Foulds said playoffs must be complete by July 22.
