Anderson lifts Spruce Kings to victory

Tyler Anderson came back to haunt the West Kelowna Warriors.

Tyler Anderson came back to haunt the West Kelowna Warriors.
Traded to the Prince George Spruce Kings a month ago, the 20-year-old defenceman scored two power-play goals against his former teammates Sunday afternoon in West Kelowna to help the Spruce Kings to a convincing 6-1 victory.
Another former Warrior, Kings centre Brett Mennear, collected a goal and an assist, as the Kings ended a two-game losing streak. Travis Schneider, Kyle Johnson and Ben Poisson also put pucks in behind Warriors goalie Shane Farkas.
Stefan Wornig made 26 saves in the Kings' nets and was on his way to recording his second shutout of the season until Blake Coffey scored while shorthanded with just 1:38 left on the clock.
The Kings went 3-for-7 on the power play and held the defending national champions scoreless on five power-play opportunities.
The win improved the Spruce Kings' record to 9-10-0-2 and they remained third in the B.C. Hockey League's Mainland Division, four points ahead of Langley. The Warriors (9-10-1-0) rank fifth in the Interior Division.
Saturday in Penticton, Vees forward Chris Klack scored two goals, including the game-winner, 17:05 into the third period, and also drew an assist to beat the Spruce Kings 3-2.
Down by two goals, the Kings pulled Wornig with 1:36 left in the third period and managed to score with their net empty, but it was too little too late. Connor Russell's sixth goal of the season came with just seven seconds left.
Johnson opened the scoring 1:08 into the game, the only goal of the first period. Klack and Duncan Campbell each scored in the second period to put the Vees ahead.
The shot count favoured the Kings, 24-23.
Mathew Robson made 21 saves to notch the victory in the Vees nets. The Vees (17-3-0-0) are first in the Interior Division and still have the league's best record.
The Kings opened their road trip Friday with a 4-3 loss to the Trail Smoke Eaters.
Prince George will visit the Surrey Eagles on Thursday and will play Friday against the Express in Coquitlam.
