Jacob Hoskins and Isaac Hausot were getting their first taste of racing against other skiers from the northern zone.
If the two Under-12 members of the Prince George Alpine Ski Club had any concerns about how they'd measure up, they need not have worried.
During Saturday racing at the Teck Resources/BC Alpine slalom meet, held at Purden Ski Village, Hoskins finished second overall in the morning and afternoon runs, while Hausot placed third in the morning race. In the afternoon, unfortunately, he lost a ski and did not finish. Another U12 skier, Jack Logan, placed sixth in the morning and fourth in the afternoon.
P.G. skier Lucas Gairns also had a great day on the slopes. In the U16 category, he posted the fastest times in both Saturday races. Also in the U16 group, Zac Hoskins was fourth in the morning and fifth in the afternoon.
In women's competition, Kaitlyn Martin was the class of the U16 field as she won both the morning and afternoon races. In the U14 division, Melinda Kobasiuk was also quick, with a second-place result in the morning and a third-place finish in the afternoon.
Other women's results were: (U12) Erica McCallum, eighth in the morning, 10th in the afternoon; Jasmine McCall, ninth and 12th; Zoe Pohl, 11th in both races; (U14) Charlotte Gibson, third and sixth; (U16) Isabelle Gibson, fourth and fifth.
The Purden event was the first of the Teck northern series. Troll Mountain near Quesnel will host the next race (Feb. 13-14), and the zone championships are April 8-10 in Smithers.
