Saturday in Langley, a discus toss by Don Allemeersch gave him the new Canadian record for the 55 to 59 age group. Allemeersch, a captain with the Prince George Fire Department, hurled his 1.5-kilogram disc 45.23 metres while competing at the 33rd annual Pacific Invitational track and field meet.

Back in March, Allemeersch attended the World Masters Games in Kamloops and set what looked to be a Canadian record there. The ruling on that throw, however, was still pending as of Saturday. Now, there's no need to make a ruling.

Also at the Langley meet, 66-year-old P.G. resident Tuomas Ukonmaanaho laid claim to four gold medals in the 65 to 69 age class. Ukonmaanaho, with an impressive time of 14.03 seconds, was unbeatable in the 100m dash. He also took top spot in the 200m dash and pole vault and was part of a winning effort in the 4x100m relay race. His team established a new national record in the age group.

Allemeersch and Ukonmaanaho will be back in action later this summer at the B.C. Seniors Games in Comox.

Alyx Treasure of Prince George won the women's high jump title in Langley. Her gold-medal leap was 1.75m.
