Alberta scores a ringer

Alberta competitors took over the podium during the Western Canada Classic Horseshoe tournament in Prince George. Alberta players earned the top prize in the men's and women's A events and in three of four men's senior events.

Alberta competitors took over the podium during the Western Canada Classic Horseshoe tournament in Prince George.

Alberta players earned the top prize in the men's and women's A events and in three of four men's senior events.

Steve Moody of Wetaskiwin, Alta., beat out Prince George's Vic Vallee in the men's A event with another Albertan, Ray Madu, placing third. In the men's B and C events it was Alberta sweeps.

The ladies A event winner was Jane Cordingley, while Quesnel's Helene Boudreau and Prince George's Ida Boschman were second and third, respectively. In the B and C events only Elaine Stern of Abbotsford prevented an Alberta sweep by taking second place in the B event.

In the senior men's 40-plus category Orlando Peilizzari of Quesnel took the prize, while Bob Price of Terrace took third place in the senior men's 30-plus B event. In the C event, J.P. Bourgoin of Terrace was second and Irvine Thorpe of Abbotsford was third.

There were 45 competitors from BC and Alberta taking part in the two-day event in the horseshoe pits beside the Prince George BMX track. Before the individual competition started Saturday, a team challenge pitted BC against Alberta on Friday evening. BC earned the win.
