Jacobs, the offensive catalyst for the Prince George Cougars this Western Hockey League season, has been signed to an amateur tryout by the Rochester Americans. The American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres made the announcement on Tuesday.

Jacobs is a 20-year-old from Coppell, Tex. He was selected by the Sabres in the fourth round (107th overall) of the 2011 NHL draft.

Jacobs was the top goal-scorer and point-producer for the Cats in 2012-13. In 66 games, he fired 25 goals and added 28 assists. Thirteen of his goals came on the power play. For his contributions, he was chosen as the Cats' player of the year.

Jacobs, six-foot-two and 207 pounds, was in his first season with the Cougars. The Cats acquired him from the Seattle Thunderbirds in an August trade that saw defenceman Jesse Forsberg head south.

In his WHL career, Jacobs has piled up 142 points (69 goals, 73 assists) in 252 games.
