After the fact, Fury adds another win

It turns out the Prince George Fury managed four wins in the inaugural season, not three. The extra Fury win is the product of boardroom wrangling after the Tacoma Stars used a pro player competing under a false name.

It turns out the Prince George Fury managed four wins in the inaugural season, not three.

The extra Fury win is the product of boardroom wrangling after the Tacoma Stars used a pro player competing under a false name.

A seasoned pro player, whose name was not divulged in a team release, was listed as Jason Gjertsen and scored the overtime winning goal for the Stars in the first-ever outing for the Fury, Jan. 9 at CN Centre. Tacoma, a team in the Pacific Arena Soccer League that interlocks with the Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League, was originally credited with a 9-8 victory over the Fury.

"Tacoma bent the rules and both the PASL president, Kevin Milliken, and myself believe that Tacoma did not understand or comprehend their actions or the consequences," CMISL president Mel Kowalchuk said in a release, sent out Thursday by the Fury.

Tacoma lost the win, and the Stars were also fined an undisclosed amount. The release said Kowalchuk and Milliken won't comment further, and Fury owner John Mehrassa, also the coach after firing the coaching staff with four games to play, did not return a call seeking comment.

Prince George's record goes into the books as 4-8, instead of 3-9, with all four wins coming on the home floor.
