Aboriginal fastball canceled

Highway closures and forest fires have contributed to a low number of team entries, forcing cancellation of this weekend's 46th annual aboriginal fastball tournament at Spruce City Stadium.

Highway closures and forest fires have contributed to a low number of team entries, forcing cancellation of this weekend's 46th annual aboriginal fastball tournament at Spruce City Stadium.

"We started out with 14 teams and ended up with five and we had to cancel it due to a lack of teams," said tournament organizer Charlie Ghostkeeper. "Some of the teams can't make it because some of the roads are closed and the fire in Slave Lake. This was going to be the 46th annual tournament and it's the first time we've had to cancel it."

Ghostkeeper is hopeful the tournament can be rescheduled for sometime in August.
