B.C. now has a total of 2,407 COVID-19 cases, according to the latest update from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Minister of Health Adrian Dix.

In a written statement today (May 15), Henry and Dix say in the past 24 hours, the province has added 15 newly recorded cases.

Northern Health saw no new positive cases since yesterday (May 14). The total remains at 58.

There are 878 cases in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 1,164 in the Fraser Health region, 126 in Island Health and 181 in Interior Health.

There are 51 people hospitalized across the province with 12 of those cases in acute care/ICU.

Officials say there are 359 active cases in B.C.

Another acute-care outbreak has been recorded at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital. In total, 15 long-term care or assisted-living facilities and five acute-care units have active cases.

“There has also been one new community outbreak with two confirmed cases at the Oppenheimer Group, a fruit and vegetable processing plant in Coquitlam," the joint statement reads.

"The public health investigation is ongoing, active contract tracing is underway and the plant remains open at this time."

Henry says there have been another five deaths confirmed, raising the total to 140 province-wide. Four deaths occurred in the Fraser Health region and one in the Vancouver Coastal Health region.

Officials said there have been 1,908 patients that have recovered from the virus and are no longer required to be in self-isolation.

“We must continue to be measured and thoughtful with each step forward in our COVID-19 recovery," Henry says. "The new outbreaks demonstrate that there continues to be risk of COVID-19 in our communities."

"We want a strong start, and to do that we need to stay local, stay apart and stay 100 per cent committed to working together. From the start of this pandemic, British Columbians have demonstrated incredible compassion and care for our health-care workers, seniors, Elders and our communities. The result has been the flattening of our curve. Let’s keep working through this together.”
