Police have clarified the 17-year-old driver involved in a collision about 9 p.m. Sept. 10 on Second Avenue and Moffat had not been drinking.

RCMP CST. Lesley Smith, media liaison officer said, "Investigating members were advised that alcohol may have been consumed by one of the parties involved. After speaking with the driver of Nissan pick up it was determined that he had not consumed any alcohol, but the collision was a direct result of his actions.

"Police were advised that a Nissan Truck was driving southbound through a back alley at a high rate of speed when it failed to stop and collided with a vehicle driving east bound on 2nd Avenue."

Clayton Taylor of Prince George, 25, was directly hit by the truck and is in critical condition at Vancouver General Hospital where he has been in a coma for the past six days.

An investigation is underway to establish the speed of both vehicles.

Charges of dangerous driving causing bodily harm are being recommended against the 17-year-old.

In the meantime friends of Taylor, a skateboarder, are holding a barbecue benefit event Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Prince George Skatepark to help support the family financially during this difficult time.
