The Connaught Youth Centre Society has received a $20,000 donation from the Vanderhoof and Districts Co-op to start four new Prince George programs.

The Connaught Youth Centre Society has received a $20,000 donation from the Vanderhoof and Districts Co-op to start four new Prince George programs.

"The Connaught Youth Centre Society is honoured to be chosen for a Community Support fund from Vanderhoof Co-op." said Catharine Kendall, executive director of the Connaught Youth Centre Society. "This donation will really help create positive change for the children/youth and families that we serve."

The society will have a youth drop-in, a before and after school program, a community kitchen as well as an equine facilitated wellness program to meet the needs of high-risk youth, children and their families.

The Affordable Housing for Seniors project presented by the Quesnel Lions Housing Society also got a $25,000 boost from the co-op as well.

The co-op is supporting charities, non-profits and community groups in 10 communities within its trading area.

"Vanderhoof Co-op is making the largest single non-government donation to our project aside from the Quesnel Lions Club itself," said Mitchell Vik, president of the Quesnel Lions Housing Society. "The Lions Club and the Quesnel Lions Housing Society hugely appreciate this generosity. Every dollar we raise for the project from here on out reduces our mortgage, and helps us to keep rents affordable."

The housing society is building a $5.37 million, 30-unit affordable housing complex for independent seniors, which was launched in 2011. Completion date for the housing complex is estimated to be in 2018.

"All of us at Vanderhoof and Districts Co-op are proud to be able to support initiatives that support and improve the quality of life in our communities," said Bud Pye, president of the Vanderhoof and Districts Co-op board of directors.

"When you support organizations and groups that support their communities, everyone benefits."
