Youth arrested after firearm report

On Wednesday at 2:08 p.m. RCMP were called to the area of First Avenue near Tabor Boulevard for a report of a male carrying a gun.

On Wednesday at 2:08 p.m. RCMP were called to the area of First Avenue near Tabor Boulevard for a report of a male carrying a gun. Officers attended and observed a male matching the description of the suspect, walking near First Avenue and Ospika Boulevard with what appeared to be a gun in his hand. or the safety of the public and the officers involved, the suspect was arrested at gun point with no resistance. The suspect was identified as a 17 year old male Prince George resident. The recovered gun turned out to be an imitation pistol style pellet gun that had the orange tip painted over.

The youth was scheduled to appear in provincial court today.

In the last two weeks, RCMP have responded to three reports of persons with guns. All three turned out to be imitations.

"The police have a duty to protect the public and cannot assume that these types of reports are for imitation guns and must assume these guns are real," said Cpl. Craig Douglass and "persons with imitation firearms could be subject to Criminal Code charges."
