An 18-year-old Prince George resident was pronounced dead at the scene following a head-on collision on Highway 16 east of Vanderhoof late Monday night.
An initial investigation showed the driver was heading east in a Pontiac Sunfire and failed to negotiate a right curve near Sob Lake Road and crossed into the path of a westbound Ford Explorer, the RCMP's regional traffic services unit said in a statement.
The name of the deceased will be withheld at the request of the family.
The occupants of the Explorer, both from the Lower Mainland, are being treated for non-life threatening injuries. One was transported to hospital in Vanderhoof and the other to the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia in Prince George.
Police were called to the scene at about 11 p.m.
Anyone who may have seen either of these vehicles on the highway, prior to the collision or may have any information, that might assist in the history of either driver, prior to the collision, is asked to call the Prince George Regional Provincial Traffic Services Unit at 250-649-4004.
