British Columbians now have until Dec. 7 to return their referendum ballot.
Elections BC has extended the Nov. 30 deadline due to the Canada Post strike.
“We have worked closely with Canada Post to understand the full impact of rotating strikes on the referendum process,” Chief Electoral Officer Anton Boegman says in a press release. “Rotating strikes have impacted accessibility. As a result, we have extended the deadline to ensure that voters are not prevented from participating through no fault of their own.”
For your vote to count, Elections BC must receive your ballot by 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 7.
If you still haven't received one in the mail, today (Nov. 23) is your last day to request one.
You can do so by:
- Visiting elections.bc.ca/ovr
- Calling 1-800-661-8683
- Visiting a Service BC Centre or Referendum Service Office
There are some conditions under which a voter can request a replacement package between Nov. 24 and Dec. 7:
- If they lost or damaged the voting package they received
- If they made a mistake on their ballot or certification envelope before sending it in
- If their name is incorrect or misspelled on their certification envelope (e.g. former surname)
- If they applied for a voting package from Elections BC before midnight on Nov. 23 and they haven’t received it
To request a replacement package, call 1-800-661-8683 or visit a Referendum Service Office or Service BC (locations are listed at elections.bc.ca/rso).
If you’re worried about your ballot not getting to Elections B.C. on time, via mail, you can drop it off at the Service BC office in Kamloops, at 250-455 Columbia St. The Prince George office is at 1044 Fifth Ave.
The voting period for the 2018 Referendum on Electoral Reform has been extended. Elections BC will now accept completed voting packages until 4:30 p.m. on December 7, 2018. https://t.co/2W4h5yC6Uw
