If you've strolled through Pine Centre Mall recently, you've probably noticed some new art outside.
The art class at Prince George Secondary School (PGSS) has beautified the outdoor planters with their photography skills.
"We reached out to Mr. Warkentin at PGSS to arrange having his art class students have art installed on the planters," Jessica Brown, spokesperson for Pine Centre Mall, tells PrinceGeorgeMatters. "We have done this for two years in a row now. We love to highlight our local talent. We keep an open line of communication with PGSS and are working with them on an ongoing basis to ensure Pine Centre is a safe, healthy environment for all of our guests, including high school students."
Brown says the mall also created a youth ambassador program this year; the initiative rewards a youth who demonstrates positive behaviour (such as reading, holding the door open for seniors, etc.) at the centre. Youth are given gift cards and acknowledgment that their actions are noticed.
The planter photos were chosen by mall staff. The printing and installation of the photos were paid for by the mall.
Brown says the images will stay on the pots until the snow starts to cover them. A new design will likely be chosen next year, she adds.
"It’s outstanding (giving back to the community)," she says. "We love being able to support our awesome community just like how they support Pine Centre Mall. The most important thing to us is to have a wholesome, community feel in the centre, and things like this really pull that together."
