WorkSafeBC fined two Prince George companies for unsafe work practices last spring.

Canfor Pulp Limited Partnership was fined $75,000 after a worker suffered severe burns when the six-meter (20-foot) aluminum tubing he was holding contacted an overhead high-voltage power line while he was erecting scaffolding on a pipe bridge.

As the prime contractor for a multiple employer worksite, Canfor Pulp "failed to do everything reasonably practicable to maintain a system to ensure compliance with the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation," WorkSafeBC said.

As well, Hayer Homes Ltd. was fined $5,963 after WorkSafeBC found it failed to give workers worksite orientations or inform tehm about worksite hazards. In addition, no meetings were held to coordinate work activities and first aid.

The fines were issued in May and included in a list of penalties province-wide released this week.
