WorkSafeBC has fined a repeat offender after an inspector came across workers on a roof at a Quesnel job site without fall protection.
Gotter Did Contracting Ltd. was levied $5,604.55 in November 2015, twice the amount it received in August 2015 for a similar infraction, according to a WorkSafeBC online posting.
In the most recent case, the inspector found four workers - three of them young workers - re-shingling a bungalow without personal fall protection systems or any other form of fall protection in place. They were exposed to falls of 3.4 to 3.8 m (11 to 12.5 ft.).
As well, none of the crew possessed level one first aid certification as required, and the first aid kit on site lacked the three blankets needed.
And a truck-mounted crane was in use, but neither the worker operating it nor any other worker present had the appropriate crane operator certificate.
"The basic penalty amount was doubled because at the time of the violations, the firm had received notice of a potential penalty for substantially similar violations about six months earlier," WorkSafeBC said in the posting.
