Activity could resume on the long-dormant hotel and condominium project next to the main branch of the Prince George Public Library as soon as this summer, "if not sooner," city planning and development general manager Ian Wells said Wednesday.
Wells said the project has been going through design changes and once the drawings have been submitted, he said the city will be able to issue a new building permit to allow the work to go ahead.
Rod McLeod, the principal of the River City Hotel Inc. and River City Ventures Inc., local group developing the projects, declined to provide on the record comment about their status when reached Wednesday.
Other than a foundation, there has been little to show for the project since a sod-turning ceremony was held in November 2013.
The intent at that time was to build a 170-room full-service hotel at the corner of 10th and Brunswick and have it ready in time for the 2015 Canada Winter Games, with a condominium complex to follow.
But since early 2014, when the foundation was poured, there has been no activity at the site, although a new traffic light has since been activated at Victoria and 10th in anticipation of the extra traffic it's expected to draw.
