Classic cars, hot rods, muscle cars - whatever you call them, a show and shine is where you'll find them.
Wood Wheaton and Corvettes North host the 2017 Wood Wheaton Classic, an event that sees a collection of newly-polished vehicles gathered at the Wood Wheaton parking lot Saturday morning for a show and shine, a rally in the afternoon and on Sunday Ten Acres of Tarmac will set the slalom action in motion at the Prince George Airport.
There's an awards gala concluding the weekend event at the UHNBC Atrium Sunday night.
Corvettes North, the Northern B.C. Chapter of the Canadian Council of Corvette Clubs, sees a group of car enthusiasts who host many events throughout the year, including this one that showcases mostly member vehicles, while inviting guests to participate as well.
This event is not exclusive to Corvettes - there's a special class to include all vehicles whose owners wish to participate.
A 1974 model was the event organizer's first Corvette, and Mykell Shane Lodjn's current favourite is his '67, appraised at $200,000, and currently on display in the Wood Wheaton showroom.
Lodjn went away from the '67's traditional Elkhart blue to add a personal touch by choosing instead the Lemans Blue used for 2005 Vettes.
"That is a brilliant blue," Lodjn said with a grin.
His love of Corvettes started early.
"I've always had a passion for cars," he said. "It started when I was a young boy. Everybody has their dreams, and I just fell in love with the Corvette. It's an icon."
Lodjn enjoys sharing his passion with like-minded people and that's why he organizes events like the Wood Wheaton Classic.
"It takes more than 20 volunteers to put on the event and without Wood Wheaton, their management team and the members of Corvettes North, events like this wouldn't happen," Lodjn said.
The public is invited to attend the show and shine, which starts at Wood Wheaton at 10 a.m. Saturday. The first car is out of the lot at 1:30 p.m. for the rally through the city.
