Today (May 25) is a day of sadness, hope, and remembrance.
It's officially recognized as National Missing Children's Day, highlighting cases of disappearances that are still ongoing.
The RCMP launched a campaign starting on May 20, featuring missing children across the country, including a Prince George case.
Helen Claire Frost went missing on Oct. 15, 1970. She went for a walk but never returned home.
According to RCMP, Frost had only been in Prince George for a few weeks when she went missing.
She was wearing a blue coat with fur trim, blue pants and her left eye opens more, according to details on the BC RCMP website.
Frost's description from RCMP is:
- Light/fair complexion
- Medium build
- 57 kg (126 lbs)
- 168 cm (5"6')
- Blue eyes
- Blonde, short hair
Frost was born in 1952 and was 17 at the time of her disappearance.
"The RCMP's dedicated unit of specialists and our hard-working partners work tirelessly to return children home to their loved ones each year. However, more can always be done," chief superintendent Marie-Claude Arsenault, director general, National Centre for Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains, RCMP says in a release.
"It's our hope that by sharing the stories of these missing children, someone out there might remember something. No matter how old an investigation is or how insignificant a piece of information may seem, you might be able to provide the missing piece of the puzzle. Please read their stories and help bring them home."
In 2018, 42,233 children were reported missing in Canada.
Frost's case was listed as a highlighted missing child by the RCMP yesterday (May 24).
