A female driver from Dawson Creek is in hospital with serious injuries and a male driver may be facing charges after a pickup truck struck a car south of Mackenzie Junction Wednesday night.
The collision took place near the Tudyah Provincial Park on Highway 97 around 3:45 p.m. According to the preliminary results of a police investigation, a small pickup driven by a 21-year-old male and travelling to Prince George crossed the centre line, hitting a car driven by a woman in her 40s.
The woman was transported to Mackenzie hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after emergency crews were forced to cut the trapped driver from the car. She was travelling to Mackenzie with one passenger, her daughter in her 20s, who was treated in hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.
Police said the mother and daughter were driving from Quesnel.
The male driver of the pickup, who is from the Fort St. John area, also suffered minor injuries but his passenger, another young male, appeared to be unhurt.
Police said alcohol and road conditions appeared to be factors in the incident. RCMP is recommending charges against the driver of the pickup.
"Driving not conducive to road conditions was a factor," said Mackenzie RCMP Corporal Jim Fenske. "The road conditions on the highway have been terrible just because the temperatures are not very cold. People really need to slow down."
The accident closed the highway for about two and a half hours. The investigation is ongoing.
