Woman sentenced for shoplifting, stealing minivan

A Prince George woman who was in the public spotlight after a security camera image of her shoplifting from a grocery store was released to local media has been sentenced.

A Prince George woman who was in the public spotlight after a security camera image of her shoplifting from a grocery store was released to local media has been sentenced.

On Friday in Prince George provincial court, Holly Ann Sopel, 29, was sentenced to 21 days in jail for willfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer stemming from her actions when arrested July 14 on suspicion of stealing a minivan.

Sopel was also sentenced to one day in jail for theft $5,000 or under from the shoplifting incident. She must also serve one year probation with a suspended sentence on those counts as well as a count of theft of a motor vehicle and was assessed $300 in victim surcharges.

Sopel was in custody for seven days prior to sentencing.
