The first series in a project bringing more wireless service along Highway 97 has been completed.
Telus partnered with the provincial government to invest $2.5 million in four new wireless sites stretching more than 40 kilometres north of Prince George.
According to Telus, the final site in the first series is now live, providing coverage to Highway 97 near Augustine Lake. The other three sites were built over the last six months near Summit Lake Road, Salmon River Road and Salmon Valley. The second series of sites are currently under construction and is expected to go live before the end of the year.
"This stretch of highway is well travelled, making wireless connection especially important when you need to call 911 for help in an emergency, or even just to let your famiily know where you are," said Lance MacDonald, Telus general manager for northern B.C., in a press release. "I live in Prince George myself, and understand just how important a wireless connection can be to residents and drivers alike."
