A warning of dangerous winter weather issued by Environment Canada early Wednesday morning is proving to be accurate as Prince George woke up to snow and a howling, swirling wind.
The cause is an n intense low pressure system that has moved close to the central coast.
"The associated frontal system will bring heavy snow to the Prince George and Bulkley Valley and The Lakes - southeast regions today with total snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 centimetres," Environment Canada said.
"The Arctic front will remain south of Prince George so the combination of strong northeast winds of 50 gusting to 70 kilometres per hour and the new snow will create poor visibilities in blowing snow.
"The Cariboo - north region is also expected to receive near 15 snow today but blowing snow will not be as much of a factor. In addition strong northeast wind gusts to 90 kilometres per hour will develop this morning over the Williston region.
"The snow and strong winds will ease this evening as the frontal system moves to the east. Meanwhile the Elk Valley region will receive upwards of 10 cm today and 20 cm tonight due to the front."
