The provincial government's winter driving regulations come into effect on Sunday.

It means your vehicle must be equipped with tires showing either the mountain snowflake or the mud and snow (M+S) symbol on the sidewall if you want to drive on any highway in B.C.'s North and Interior.

They must also be in good condition and have at least 3.5 millimetres of tread.

"People may experience sunny and warm conditions when they set out, but run into heavy rain, snow or sleet along the way," said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Claire Trevena. "That's why it's important to ensure your vehicle is properly equipped with snow tires with the mountain snowflake or mud and snow symbol, along with good solid treads."

Those caught driving without face a fine of up to $121. If it's the correct type of tire but the tread depth is too shallow, the fine is $109.
