A record amount of precipitation for Dec. 16 could fall on Prince George by the end of the day.

The mark to beat is 16 mm, set in 1976, and as of 10 a.m., nine cm of snow - which translates into a nine mm of water - has fallen on the city so far today, Environment Canada meteorologist Jim Steele confirmed, with no sign the deluge will let up.

Even if the snow stops, freezing rain is predicted to follow according to a weather warning issued early this morning. The record for snow for the day is 14.4 cm, set in 2000.
