The 2015 Canada Winter Games Bid Transition Team presented an overview of the bid process and the expected costs - almost $50 million - to host the event to city council Monday night.

This is the first time that the Canada Winter Games will be held in British Columbia, with summer games being held in 1973 New Westminster/Burnaby and in Kamloops for 1993, and the city will be taking on a large portion of the cost of this privilege.

Of the $49,441,165 overall budget, the City of Prince George will be responsible for 30 per cent, coming out to just less than $15 million. The federal government provide 23 per cent, and the province will come up with 22 per cent.

Corporate sponsorship is only listed at 16 per cent, about $8 million, and ticket and merchandise sales are expected to bring in just two per cent, or under $1 million.
