The 2015 Coldsnap music festival and the 2015 Canada Winter Games have made a merger.
Under normal timelines, Coldsnap would be booking acts, securing venues and calling on volunteers and personnel at almost the same time that the CWGs is slated for.
Rather than compete for resources, including the human kind, the two groups announced Tuesday they would be working closely together instead.
"Through a partnership that welcomes the Prince George Folkfest Society as an Official Festival Partner, the 2015 Canada Winter Games is excited to announce that Coldsnap, the Prince George music festival, will be integrated into the 2015 Canada Games Arts and Cultural Festival," said Karen Jeffrey, manager of ceremonies and culture with the Games.
Coldsnap's chair/producer Elissa Meiklem said, "The timing of the 2015 Canada Winter Games and the Coldsnap festival presents a unique opportunity for us to participate in the 2015 Games Arts and Cultural Festival. We are particularly excited to partner on legacy aspects that will support the cultural landscape of Prince George in years to come."
"The 2015 Canada Winter Games is much more than a sporting event," said Stuart Ballantyne, 2015 Canada Winter Games CEO. "This partnership with the Prince George Folkfest Society [operators of Coldsnap] will enhance our robust festival programming to the next level, with the annual Coldsnap festival occurring within the 2015 Canada Games Arts and Cultural Festival during the 2015 Canada Winter Games."
Watch for concerts during the Games that are powered by Coldsnap as national performing artists interface with the best in local talent during the 18-day cultural elements of the massive event. A schedule of events for the arts and cultural festival will be available in November.
