Starting today (Aug. 17), if you plan on going to Winners and HomeSense in Prince George, you must wear a mask.

The TJX Companies, the group that owns Winners, HomeSense and Marshalls, are requiring customers to wear face coverings inside their stores nation-wide, adding the request to its current COVID-19 safety protocols.

Since the Pine Centre Mall locations opened on June 16, the number of people inside the department stores have been limited and all employees have been required to wear personal protective equipment.

"Customers will be required to wear a face covering in all of our stores," says the TJX website in its update today.

Exceptions will be made for young children and those with health conditions that prevent them from wearing a mask.

Northern Health has added 17 new positive cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of August, which, as of today, are linked to a religious gathering in northern Alberta, which northeastern residents were said to have attended.

B.C., as a whole, endured its third- (Aug. 12) and fourth-highest (Aug. 14) single-day case counts last week with 85 and 84 respectively.

In Prince George, other stores that require, or strongly encourage, customers to wear a mask include Walmart, Costco, Fabricland, Old Navy, Dollar Tree Canada and Moore's Clothing for Men.
