Prince George's winery is serving music, mulled wine and a message of hope.

The Northern Lights Winter Wine Festival pops its cork on Saturday, with an afternoon of arts and culture pouring out for the community, and the Canadian Cancer Society's Climb For Cancer receiving the charitable proceeds.

Principal organizer Kim Royle of Royle Events said last year's inaugural event was such a success the piece fell into place much more readily for 2017. The combination of the Northern Lights Estate Winery setting and the presence of such an array of artists made it an instant hit with the public. Some of last year's guests even confessed that they would have been drawn in by the mulled wine alone.

"Guests of the event will choose their favorite mulled wine team and the team with the most votes will win a People's Choice Award," Royle said.

This year's list of mulled wine makers include Jim Pattison Broadcast Group, Vista Radio, The City of Prince George, Prince George's MLAs, The Prince George Firefighters, Chartwells, and The Prince George Cougars. Notably missing from the list is defending champion Norton North Ranch Cottages, leaving the championship possibilities wide open for 2017.

Entry to the event is $20, which gets participants into one of three afternoon sessions. Choose from among the 12-1:30, the 1:30-3, or the 3-4:30 time slots.

In edition to the mulled wine sampling and voting, participants are also treated to the music of local performers like Ben Brown, John Rogers and others. There will also be an array of original artists vending their wares like jewelry, glass, pottery and more. There will also be winery tours on offer. Food will be available, provided by Ohh Chocolat Caf.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at the winery and Ohh Chocolat.
