Firefighters in the Cariboo region were kept busy over the Easter long weekend responding to six human-caused wildfires.
The fires ranged from spot fires to 10 hectares in size, but were quickly contained. The fires were centered around 150 Mile House and Alexis Creek.
Drier springs have meant an early start to wildfire season in the interior, fire information officer Jenny Fremlin said.
"Last year's number, at this time... we'd have three fires. But in 2010 we'd had nine fires by this time," Fremlin said. "Most fires this time of year are due to carelessness. At this time the cause of all the fires is under investigation."
An open fire ban is in effect throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre region, Fremlin said, prohibiting fires larger than one metre in diameter.
In the Prince George Fire Centre region, only two wildfires have been reported so far this year, with a combined size of five hectares. No fire bans are in effect in the Prince George Fire Centre region.
The fire danger rating is moderate to low in the majority of the Prince George and Cariboo regions.
