Two rest areas along Highway 16 will get free Wi-Fi, the provincial government said Tuesday.
The service will be up and running at Mount Terry Fox, six km east of Tete Jaune, and at Glacier View, seven km north of Smithers, by spring 2017.
They're among five spots slated for installation by that time. The other three spots are at Britton Creek, 67 km north of Merritt on Highway Five, Galena Bay, 49 km north of Nakusp on Highway 23, and Taylor River, 37 km west of Port Alberni on Highway Four .
A further 20 sites, yet unnamed, to get Wi-Fi in the coming years
"Our rest areas are critical to the tourism industry, as well as the commercial trucking sector by allowing drivers to rest and access washroom facilities," Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone said in a release.
"Earlier this month my ministry committed $9 million in funding over three years to improve the safety, comfort and convenience of rest areas. These improvements, along with the addition of Wi-Fi will be a key part of ensuring we deliver a competitive, world-class travel experience to visitors."
Rest areas with Wi-Fi will be designate with a special sign.
