It looks like it's going to be a white Christmas for Prince George, said meteorologist Dayna Vettese from the Weather Network.

"Going forward, we're looking at Christmas time, we do have some snow on the ground so it's not like there's an absence of snow in the Prince George area but it's not a lot of snow," said Vettese. "So between now and Christmas we could add a few more centimetres to the snow pack already on the ground."

Temperatures are expected to be at or below freezing before Christmas so what is there isn't going to melt away, she added.

"The snow isn't too thick so we could get a little melting with the sun but for the most part the snow that's there should be sticking around until Christmas," said Vettese. "Not like other parts of the country that are pretty much going to see a green or brown Christmas like Southern Ontario and Nova Scotia, for example."

Between Christmas and new year's there is a colder weather pattern coming.

"We did have a couple of cold air outbreaks in British Columbia earlier this month and at the end of November, and going towards the end of the year and into the new year, we'll get back into a colder pattern," said Vettese.

To build up that snow pack there are normal weather patterns anticipated for January and February.

"About 50 centimetres of snow on average is usually expected in January and so I would expect that we get amounts close to that so we should be able to make snow and have snow going towards the Winter Games," said Vettese.
