Prince George RCMP are investigating the theft of tires and rims from vehicles parked at the UNBC student residence over Friday night.

Prince George RCMP are investigating the theft of tires and rims from vehicles parked at the UNBC student residence over Friday night.

In all, police received four reports of stolen tires and rims and one of an attempted theft from a vehicle that had wheel locks.

The vehicles were jacked up and wooden logs were placed underneath them for blocks.

"These types of thefts are very unusual" Cpl. Craig Douglass said. "The thief or thieves need to be organized and have equipment to lift the vehicles and remove the tires."

Police are warning the public to be cautious of this recent trend and encourage vehicle owners to purchase wheel locks.

The thefts occurred sometime between 9 p.m. on Thursday and 7 a.m. on Friday.

Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to call Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca (English only), or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637) using keyword "pgtips."
