After energizing the home crowd at provincials two weeks ago, a local ringette team was pinned against some tougher opponents at regionals.

By the end of the weekend, the 18A-plus Prince George Rush failed to win a game at the 2019 Western Canadian Championships and finished with a record of 0-5.

The tournament took place in St. Albert, Alberta, hosting three other levels of play in addition to 18A-plus; this included Under-14AA, Under-16A, and Under-19A.

Prince George earned the right to represent B.C. after claiming the provincial title at the Kin Centre, defeating Kelowna 6-2 in the gold medal match.

The closest contest at Westerns was in the fifth-sixth place game against Saskatchewan.

They enjoyed leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the first half thanks to goals by Sydney Irving, but they would give up two more goals, one in the first and one in the second, and would lose by a score of 3-2.

Here are the results of Prince George’s round-robin play as Team B.C.:

  • 9-2 loss to Manitoba
  • 10-4 loss to Saskatchewan
  • 11-3 loss to Alberta
  • 7-0 loss to host St. Albert

Now, the team, and any of its returning players, will get a chance at redemption next year as Prince George is scheduled to host the 2020 Western Canadian Ringette Championships.

More details will come in the next year ahead of the March competition.
