West Fraser Timber announced Tuesday it has completed the sale of its deep sea wharf and related assets to Rio Tinto Alcan.

The wharf formed part of West Fraser's Eurocan linerboard and kraft paper mill in Kitimat, which was closed in January 2010.

The news comes five months after West Fraser said it had entered an agreement to sell the assets to Rio Tinto, subject to obtaining certain government approvals for the transfer of related permits and licences.

No sale price was provided.
