Week Seven: Spruce City Men’s Fastball League recap

Playoffs began this week after condensed 2020 season concluded

Highlights from the Spruce City Men’s Fastball League (SCMFL) from the week ending on Friday (Sept. 4).

Wednesday, Sept. 2

  • 9 - FFR Glass Grays
  • 4 - Falcon Camp Services

The Grays sealed their freshman season in the SCMFL with an eighth victory in 13 games.

Garrett Caron led the charge on the mound to get the ‘W.’

  • 11 - Sibola Electric Royals
  • 11 - Freshii Hitmen

The 2020 regular season ended with a tie between the Royals and Hitmen.

Norm Linton clobbered the only home run of the contest.

FINAL REGULAR-SEASON STANDINGS

  • 11-2 = Falcon Contracting
  • 7-6-1 = Sibola Electric Royals
  • 8-5 = FFR Glass Grays
  • 4-10 = Falcon Camp Services
  • 4-10-1 = Freshii Hitmen

PLAYOFFS

Thursday, Sept. 3

  • 9 - Falcon Camp Services
  • 3 - Freshii Hitmen

The triple-knockout postseason began with the fourth- and fifth-seeded teams respectively.

Falcon Camp Services tripled the last-place Hitmen to advance in the playoffs; Donnie Ketlo rallied on the mound after his team lost the night before.

If the Hitmen lose two more games, they’ll be eliminated from contention.

  • 8 - FFR Glass Grays
  • 4 - Sibola Electric Royals

Garrett Caron was money once again on the hill for the third-ranked Grays, upsetting the second-seeded Royals in their opening playoff match.

The Royals are down 0-1 and will be eliminated as well if they lose two more contests.

Playoff action returns to Spruce City Stadium Tuesday (Sept. 8) with a double-header.

Number-one Falcon Contracting will take on Falcon Camp Services at 6:30 p.m., while the nightcap will feature the Hitmen and the Royals at 8:15 p.m.

Each team is guaranteed three games.

The SCMFL Championship final is slated for Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m.
