Residents in the Hart may notice cloudy water for a few hours each day over the next few weeks as the city flushes watermains in the area to remove sediment from the system.

Those living south of Austin Road near Foothills Boulevard and Kelly Road/Highland Drive will be affected, the city said.

The work begins Wednesday and is expected to take two to three weeks.

"The water is safe to drink, but the operation can stir up iron deposits in the watermains so it is suggested that residents avoid doing laundry from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. while the system is being flushed to reduce the risk of laundry discolouration," city said.

"Residents may also notice a limited amount of water on roads and in ditches as the operation proceeds."
