A broken water main along Third Avenue was repaired Thursday night, nearly eight hours after it burst.
The 12-inch pipe at Third and Vancouver spewed water into the street for hours before water was turned off. Crews turned the water back on at 6:40 p.m.
"Residents and commercial buildings should run water if they encounter any cloudy water in their taps until it becomes clear. It is safe to drink, said city spokesman Michael Kellett.
The City of Prince George opened the west bound lanes along Third Avenue, but kept the east bound lanes closed from Vancouver Street to Victoria Street for paving the excavation, planned Friday morning.
The city said aging infrastructure was likely to blame, because the pipe was built in 1957.
