Police apprehended Robert Lee Milligan, considered armed and dangerous, at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at a residence located near the intersection of Dezell Drive and Patterson Street.

Because of concerns for public safety an area including about 100 homes was closed off and some residents were evacuated from houses close to the residence.

At about 10 p.m. on Tuesday the perimeter was reduced and residents of about 50 were allowed to go home. The remaining residents could return only after Milligan was apprehended at 3:30 Wednesday morning.

Milligan was wanted for a number of offences from an incident that occurred in the 1400 blick of Jarvis Street April 3.

Crown approved charges including uttering threats, pointing a firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a firearm while knowingly unlicenced, possession of a firearm while prohibited.

Miulligan has an extensive history of violence and unpredictability with both the public and the police.

"The support and understanding for our efforts to keep the pubic safe, was overwhelming," said Cpl. Craig Douglass, spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP, in a recent news release. "With the exception of very few, most persons affected by this situation were patient and co-operative towards the officers. We need to thank all those persons that were affected by this, whether it be residents, their friends and families or the businesses such as pharmacies and hotels that accommodated those in need. Thank You! Public safety is not something we can take lightly and we really appreciate the support."

Milligan is in custody at least until his first court appearance expected to be later today.

This investigation is continuing and the possibility of further charges have not been ruled out.
