A young child found wandering in the Spruceland neighbourhood has been returned home.

Wearing nothing but rubber boots, the three-year-old boy was found near the corner of Union Street and Youngs Avenue, a block west of Ahbau, by a member of the public on Wednesday morning.

Called to the scene at 10:15 a.m., police took custody of the youngster and brought in a service dog to help figure out where he lives, although RCMP credited a Canada Post employee for providing the key tip to solve the mystery.

"The Prince George RCMP would like to thank the members of the public that took the time to assist the child and the police in this situation" says Cpl. Craig Douglass, spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP. "Without their help, the results could have been much worse."

Officers have advised child welfare authorities.
