ICBC is asking both pedestrians and motorists to do their part to prevent tragedy as the weather changes and daylight hours decrease.

Almost two times more pedestrians are hit by vehicles from November to January compared to June to August, according to the insurer.

ICBC is urging drivers to take extra time to look for pedestrians before turning, avoid distractions and be ready to yield. Pedestrians can help stay safe by making eye contact, wearing bright and reflective clothing, and staying focused on the road.

In northern B.C., 90 pedestrians are injured and four pedestrians are killed in crashes every year.

Between Oct. 5 and Dec. 16 of last year, four pedestrians were killed on Prince George streets and three drivers are now facing charges under the Motor Vehicle Act from the fatalities.
