For the first time in Prince George, a walk in support of people affected by workplace tragedy will be held May 1 at Masich Place.

Steps for Life is the primary fundraiser for Threads of Life, which connects people who've suffered workplace injuries and losses.

"It creates a community of people which I think is a really big part of the healing process," walk organizer Laura Lawrence said.

A longer-term goal is to establish a Threads of Life family forum in Prince George.

The event also comes three days after the annual Day of Mourning in remembrance of people who lost their lives while on the job. It also occurs on the first day of North American Occupational Safety and Health week.

The five-kilometre walk around the track starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. and registration is $15 per person. Participants get a T-shirt and there will be a barbecue.

There will also be a memory wall where thoughts about people hurt in workplace incidents can be posted.
