This Saturday is the nation's day for walking to commemorate HIV-AIDS, and in Prince George everyone will put boots to the ground at Masich Stadium.
The Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life is a cross-Canada event to raise funds and awareness for one of society's most vexing diseases.
"As many as 68,000 people are living with HIV/AIDS in Canada, and one quarter of them don't even know it," said a statement from Positive Living North (PLN). "There is no cure and no vaccine to prevent new infections."
PLN is a non-profit organization in Prince George that provides education, prevention and HIV/AIDS support services for the northern capital's surrounding area.
"Donations may be made at any time leading up to the event and a tax receipt will be provided," said the statement. "PLN also accepts donations throughout the year to help with our support, education and awareness activities. All donations regardless of size are welcome, and can include donations of merchandise or gift cards/certificates."
The event opens with registration at 11:30 a.m. Saturday and the walk runs from noon till 3 p.m.
