About 34 per cent of the city's estimated eligible voters showed up to cast their ballots in the 2014 local government elections.
According to unofficial results, there was a 19,710 ballots cast for mayor, council and in response to the referendum question on fluoride.
It was an improvement on the 28.5 per cent turnout observed in the 2011 election and according to preliminary figures compiled by CivicInfo B.C., better than the 33.3 per cent provincial average.
