Video from a security camera of a man stalking and then appearing to kill a pet cat outside a downtown nightspot has been posted online in hopes it will generate some tips that will lead to the suspect's arrest.
MIkey,a five-year-old Persian-Siamese cross, was found dead in the parking lot behind Alibi's on the morning of Aug. 17.
He was the pet cat of Gordon Smith, who lives in the National Hotel, which also houses the nightspot at First and Dominion.
"It's just stupid people doing things," Smith said.
Wulfgar Bell, a friend of Smith's, posted the video on his Facebook page.
"We're really trying to find the guy so he can be prosecuted but that's just pure animal cruelty," Bell said.
It shows a man wearing a green shirt and blue jeans carrying what appears to be a pipe as he slowly approaches the cat. The two go around a corner and the man comes back out carrying the dead cat.
Three other cats live in the building - traffic has been known to stop so they can cross First Avenue - and they are now "literally locked into their individual rooms by their owners out of fear letting the cats get outside," Bell said.
"Three of the four would go out on their own, always come home, meow to be let in, meow to be let out and all of us tenants upstairs would love and support the cats."
