Remember to look to the skies on Saturday (Aug. 15) as the Great Regional Air Hug of 2020 is set to fly overhead.

The Vanderhoof International Airshow Society created the event to bring a little hope to the region in lieu of its biannual airshow being postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19.

The Great Regional Air Hug of 2020 consists of an organized multi-aircraft flyover of the entire north-central region.

The society has now released the route map ahead of the weekend event with aircraft departing from Vanderhoof Airport at approximately 12 p.m.

The route then follows Saik'uz, Cluculz Lake, Prince George, Fort St. James, Nak'azdli, Endako, Stellat'en, Fraser Lake, Nadleh Whut'en, Fort Fraser, Engen and many other points in between.

Aircraft of varying types and sizes are on the docket, including some airshow performers soaring through the valley, while others are set to adorn the sky with airshow smoke.

“We are still here, we are grateful for the support of our communities, partners, sponsors and guests. We are proud to be Northerners, we are resilient, and we will be back, better than ever,” says the society in an earlier Facebook post.

Make sure to keep your eyes on the sky between noon and 1 p.m. and you’ll be able to see the Great Regional Air Hug.

You can find out more about the event through the society’s Facebook page or website.
